Corundum Brick: High-Grade Refractory Brick for Extreme High-Temperature Furnace Lining

Introduction to Corundum Brick

Corundum brick is a premium refractory product with corundum as its main crystalline phase, where the alumina (Al₂O₃) content exceeds 90%. It is manufactured by sintering high-purity alumina raw materials at ultra-high temperature. Thanks to its outstanding high-temperature performance and chemical inertness, corundum brick has become one of the most widely used refractory materials for industrial kilns and furnaces worldwide.
Corundum is the mineral form of aluminum oxide, featuring extremely high melting point and hardness. After shaping and high-temperature sintering, corundum bricks form a dense microstructure, which can withstand long-term service under severe heat, slag erosion and mechanical abrasion. Our factory supplies standard straight bricks, arch bricks, wedge bricks and custom special-shaped corundum bricks according to customer drawings.

Key Performance Advantages

  • Ultra-high refractoriness

Corundum brick can keep stable structure at temperatures above 1700℃. It maintains high mechanical strength under continuous high-temperature working conditions, suitable for long-cycle high-temperature production lines.

  • Strong corrosion & slag resistance

The dense crystal structure effectively blocks penetration of molten metal, glass melt, acid and alkaline slag. It can resist chemical attack in both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres, greatly extending furnace service life.

  • High density and low apparent porosity

Low porosity reduces the infiltration of molten media and corrosive gas, minimizing internal erosion and damage to the brick body. High bulk density brings superior wear resistance for furnace areas with scouring and friction.

  • High mechanical compressive strength

It features excellent cold crushing strength and high-temperature flexural strength, able to bear heavy load and mechanical impact inside kilns.

  • Stable thermal performance

Sintered corundum brick has moderate thermal shock resistance. Modified grades such as corundum-mullite brick provide better resistance against rapid temperature cycling.

Main Types of Corundum Brick

1. High Purity White Corundum Brick

Al₂O₃ ≥99%, made from industrial fused white alumina, with ultra-low impurity content. It owns the best chemical stability and highest refractoriness. It is widely adopted in glass kilns, petrochemical reformers and high-precision ceramic kilns.

2. Sintered Corundum Brick

Al₂O₃ 90%~98%, balanced performance and cost. This is the most common grade for steel, cement and general high-temperature kiln lining. It combines good thermal shock resistance and slag resistance.

3. Composite Corundum Series Brick

Including chrome corundum brick, zirconium corundum brick and corundum mullite brick. By adding extra components, these composite bricks optimize targeted properties, such as improved anti-spalling or stronger resistance to special corrosive media.

Industrial Application Fields

Iron & Steel Metallurgy

Used for lining of electric arc furnaces, refining furnaces, steel ladles, tundishes and hot blast stoves. It works in zones exposed to molten steel and slag scouring.

Glass Manufacturing Industry

Applied in glass melting furnace bottom, sidewall, regenerator checker bricks and feeding channels, resisting erosion from high-temperature molten glass.

Petrochemical & Chemical Industry

Serves as lining for secondary reformers, cracking furnaces and gas generators. It handles high temperature and hydrogen corrosion in chemical reaction systems.

Ceramic & Kiln Industry

Lining for tunnel kilns, shuttle kilns and roller kilns for firing ceramics, porcelain and refractory products.

Non-Ferrous Metal & Cement Industry

For aluminum, copper, nickel smelting furnaces and high-temperature zones of cement rotary kilns. It also works for waste incinerators with harsh corrosive flue gas.
