Sillimanite Brick – Stable Aluminosilicate Refractory for Continuous High-Temperature Kiln Operation

Product Introduction

Sillimanite brick is a premium high-alumina refractory product manufactured using natural sillimanite mineral as the primary raw material, formed and sintered under strict high-temperature production procedures. Belonging to the Al₂O₃-SiO₂ refractory system, sillimanite undergoes crystal transformation during long-term heating, converting into mullite together with free silica. Moderate volume expansion generated in this phase change compensates the sintering shrinkage of the brick body, effectively reducing gaps and cracks inside the furnace lining and maintaining outstanding dimensional stability under sustained high-temperature service. This unique characteristic distinguishes sillimanite brick from ordinary refractory bricks and greatly improves the integrity and service cycle of high-temperature kiln linings.

Core Performance Advantages

Compared with conventional high-alumina bricks, sillimanite bricks deliver more balanced physical and chemical performance under complex thermal conditions. The material features refractoriness ranging from 1770℃ to 1830℃, while its load softening temperature under 0.2 MPa pressure reaches 1500℃ to 1650℃.

It maintains stable mechanical strength at elevated temperatures and exhibits low high-temperature creep value, resisting permanent deformation under long-term thermal load. With a low thermal expansion coefficient, sillimanite brick achieves excellent thermal shock resistance, and can withstand repeated temperature fluctuation without severe spalling or fracture. In addition, the dense structure offers reliable resistance against erosion from molten glass liquid and metallurgical slag, and brings minimal contamination to molten glass, which makes it highly favoured in glass manufacturing facilities.

Main Application Fields

The application scope of sillimanite brick covers multiple high-temperature industrial sectors.

Within the glass industry, it is widely adopted for furnace superstructure, regenerator sections, forehearth, feeder channels, flow openings and related key components of glass melting furnaces.

In metallurgical production, sillimanite brick serves as lining material for blast furnaces, hot blast stoves and high-temperature calcination kilns.

For ceramic manufacturing, it is used for tunnel kiln lining and kiln furniture subjected to cyclic heating and cooling.

It also works well in chemical high-temperature reactors and thermal treatment equipment that faces alternating temperature environments.
