Fused Zirconia Mullite Brick – Premium Fused Cast Refractory for Glass Melting Furnace

Fused zirconia mullite brick is a high-performance fused cast refractory specially developed for continuous high-temperature operation in the global glass industry. Many buyers easily confuse it with standard fused cast AZS block. Although both adopt electro-fusion casting technology, they differ greatly in chemical composition, crystal structure and applicable working zones.
Fused zirconia mullite brick is manufactured by fully melting high-purity alumina raw materials and zircon sand inside electric arc furnaces at ultra-high temperature. The molten mixture is poured into precision moulds and undergoes strict annealing treatment under controlled temperature curves. This production route forms a dense interlocking crystal network composed of mullite and monoclinic zirconia. Compared with ordinary sintered refractory bricks, it features much lower apparent porosity, higher bulk density and superior hot mechanical strength.

Core Chemical & Physical Advantages

  • Excellent thermal shock resistance and anti-spalling property. It can withstand repeated temperature fluctuations inside glass furnaces and effectively reduce brick cracking during periodic maintenance and heat-up procedures.
  • Good resistance against alkaline vapor and flue gas corrosion generated during glass melting. It maintains stable structure under long-term kiln operation.
  • Low tendency of glass phase exudation. It minimizes impurities such as stones, bubbles and cords in finished glass products, which is critical for container glass, borosilicate glass and opal glass production.
  • High refractoriness under load and stable creep resistance at sustained high temperature, supporting long campaign cycles of glass melting furnaces.
  • Moderate raw material cost compared with high-zircon AZS blocks, offering an economical lining solution for furnace superstructure projects.

Main Application Zones

Fused zirconia mullite refractory blocks are widely adopted in various glass melting furnaces.

The material is highly recommended for glass kiln superstructure areas, including melting furnace crown, breast wall, port arch, peephole blocks, burner blocks and regenerator lining.

It also works well in forehearth, channel and auxiliary flue sections for many medium-temperature glass production lines.

Important Application Reminder

It is necessary to clarify the service limitation: fused zirconia mullite brick is not suitable for positions that directly contact high-flow molten glass. For melting tank walls, tank bottom, throat and other heavily eroded areas touching glass liquid, standard fused cast AZS blocks (AZS-33#, AZS-36#, AZS-41#) remain the preferred choice with stronger anti-corrosion performance.
